Summary

One of the most beloved classics in children's literature, Kipling's masterpiece follows Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves, and his animal friends as they fight for survival in the Indian jungle。 Young readers will love the wise bear Baloo and Bagheera the black panther; shiver at the vicious tiger Shere Khan; laugh at the silly monkeys; and feel compassion for the grown-up Mowgli--who must finally acknowledge his own humanity。

This was by far the hardest Classic Starts I've read。 I'll admit, I was expecting more of the Disney movie, but even beyond that this book was disjointed in it's story telling。 Kipling uses a different way to tell stories, and he actually sets the most exciting part (the fight with Shere Khan) right at the beginning。 After that it becomes a book of shorts stories about the various adventures of Mowgli。It took a lot of Suspension of Disbelief, and became far too far-fetched for me to enjoy。 The c This was by far the hardest Classic Starts I've read。 I'll admit, I was expecting more of the Disney movie, but even beyond that this book was disjointed in it's story telling。 Kipling uses a different way to tell stories, and he actually sets the most exciting part (the fight with Shere Khan) right at the beginning。 After that it becomes a book of shorts stories about the various adventures of Mowgli。It took a lot of Suspension of Disbelief, and became far too far-fetched for me to enjoy。 The chapters were incredibly long, the characters didn't really grow or change。 It was a book of short stories, and I don't really care for those。 。。。more

Loved reading this at night with my son。 He’s ten and we were both gripped by the story。 This is different and so so much better than the Disney versions we’ve seen。 It’s more emotional, more raw, and powerful。 Mowgli is a champion any kid (or mom) can admire。

The book I just finished reading is The Jungle Book by Lisa Church。 This book tells you the story of a young boy who goes and lives in the jungle with a wolf pack。 The wolf pack names him Mowgli and take him under their wing。 A tiger and snake also help him。 Together they teach him how to survive and the Law of the Jungle。 Mowgli kills the most feared predator of them all, Shere Khan the tiger。 After that he continues to help the wolf pack and protect the animals of the jungle from humans。 I wou The book I just finished reading is The Jungle Book by Lisa Church。 This book tells you the story of a young boy who goes and lives in the jungle with a wolf pack。 The wolf pack names him Mowgli and take him under their wing。 A tiger and snake also help him。 Together they teach him how to survive and the Law of the Jungle。 Mowgli kills the most feared predator of them all, Shere Khan the tiger。 After that he continues to help the wolf pack and protect the animals of the jungle from humans。 I would recommend this book to elementary and middle school kids。 It teaches you lots of important lessons。I really liked this book。 I thought it was interesting and I loved the characters。 。。。more

Just refresh up my memory of Jungle book before watching the motion picture。I enjoyed reading this with clear mind because I surprised that I've forgotten most of the story lines。 You could feel a strength of family bond, friendship, and determination。 Just refresh up my memory of Jungle book before watching the motion picture。I enjoyed reading this with clear mind because I surprised that I've forgotten most of the story lines。 You could feel a strength of family bond, friendship, and determination。 。。。more

B。 asked me to read this to her。 It definitely does the job of summarizing the Mowgli stories from the first and second jungle books (I will tell you why I know。。。) and I believe they have tried to stay true to the theme/tone while making it more appropriate for younger readers。 It felt FLAT to me though。 At the end B。 was curious about why certain plot points happened and she decided we needed to read the original version to see if we could find out。 So yes, we read the whole thing right after。 B。 asked me to read this to her。 It definitely does the job of summarizing the Mowgli stories from the first and second jungle books (I will tell you why I know。。。) and I believe they have tried to stay true to the theme/tone while making it more appropriate for younger readers。 It felt FLAT to me though。 At the end B。 was curious about why certain plot points happened and she decided we needed to read the original version to see if we could find out。 So yes, we read the whole thing right after。 Seems odd, but actually it really helped to have done it this way。 We knew the basic plot so we could better appreciate ALL the dialogue, long descriptions and explanations without getting lost in the old fashioned language。 。。。more

Really enjoyed reading this one with my 7 and 5 yr-old。

I just finished reading this to my 7 year old, reading one chapter per night, before bed。 She loves stories about animals and the outdoors, and this one really fit the bill。 The simpler writing and story lines (compared to the Rudyard Kipling original) made it much more accessible to her。 The violence and drama weren't too much。 She even enjoyed going over the questions at the end and discussing the book that way。 I just finished reading this to my 7 year old, reading one chapter per night, before bed。 She loves stories about animals and the outdoors, and this one really fit the bill。 The simpler writing and story lines (compared to the Rudyard Kipling original) made it much more accessible to her。 The violence and drama weren't too much。 She even enjoyed going over the questions at the end and discussing the book that way。 。。。more
